Chongqing Jiaotong University is situated in the Nan’an District of Chongqing City. After over 50 years of development, it has evolved into a multi-discipline university specialized in civil engineering.

Chongqing Jiaotong University has an area of over 2,048mu, (137 hectares). There are 14,000 students in registration and over 1,500 persons on the teaching staff, among whom 620 are full-time teachers including over 300 professors and associate professors. According to the specialty catalogue issued by the Education Ministry, it has 27 specialties of the undergraduate level (such as Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Traffic Transportation, Harbour and Waterway Engineering), 31 specialties of the senior vocational level, 29 specialties of the adult educational level (including 4-year programs, 3-year programs and self studying programs). There are 35 laboratories classified as first rate nationwide (including the Experimental Center fro Water Conservancy and Waterway Transportation), an advanced computer center and an audio-visual education center. With a collection of over 870,000 books and journals the university library is equipped with a retrieval system on a disk database. So far there have already been 4 databases and forty electronic references rooms whose books and magazines are automatically catalogued and circulated. The students can enjoy such facilities as an Olympic sized swimming pool, a sports ground and hi-tech classrooms. In addition they obtain access to television, telephone, air-conditioners and the school computer network entry as well in their dormitories. 

The university has made much progress in the students’ recruitment and the graduates’ employment. In recent years, it has good and rich resources of applicants. The average rate of employment upon graduation has been over 90% successively in the past 5 years.

Chongqing Jiaotong University can boast a strong scientific research capacity, rejoicing in the possession of a large number of experts and scholars, one academe, twelve scientific research institutions, three key subjects at the provincial or ministerial level, two key labs at the provincial or ministerial level, eleven specialties with master’s degree conferment, the conferment of the master’s degree to people with equivalent academic background and the general engineering’s master’s degree. In recent years it has taken over more than 200 key projects at the national, provincial or ministerial level such as the

Three Gorges Water Conservancy Terminal Research Project, the Project on Chengdu- Chongqing Freeway, the Canton Humen Bridge, the Wanxian Yangtze River Bridge, the Chongquig Bund, and the Chongquig Huanghuayuan Bridge, among which over 50 have been awarded sci-tech advancement prizes at the national, ministerial , provincial or municipal level.
